The "Old-Fashioned Barn Raising"
Construction is the fun part of the community-built playground project. Your committee and playground volunteers come together in the spirit of an old-fashioned American Barn Raising, transforming your children's ideas into exciting reality.
How can you build a playground in a few days?
In the first phase of construction, Learning Structures will guide your more construction-experienced volunteers in using heavy equipment to dig holes, set poles, and frame up the large structural members for the playground.
In the second phase of construction, the larger number of less-experienced, but equally enthusiastic volunteers will be guided by Learning Structures and your Team Captains to assemble the remaining playground elements.
As the volunteers apply the finishing touches of sanding and installing a resilient ground surfacing, a Learning Structures Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) will inspect the playground for safety.
Guidelines for periodic inspections and community participation in maintenance are prepared for each project. | |
